Despite trying all manner of retrieves, I failed to draw so much as a bump. Again and again I worked my big streamer fly, rigged on a short length of single-strand wire, through the trail. I persisted, and ended up spending a couple of hours anchored on our mackerel marks off Lee Point, feeding a steady stream of small fish off-cuts into the swirling tide as berley. Surface activity and bird life was also noticeably lacking. The sou’ easter was back chopping up the sea and robbing it of that emerald clarity it had offered the previous week. However, as soon as I rounded East Point and left the Harbour behind, it was obvious that conditions had changed. Two days later, I headed out again, this time on my own, and with the 9-weight fly rod rigged in the hope of tangling with a few line-peeling pelagics. When we were finally able to get away, it was obvious we’d only just caught the tail end of the hot bite, but we still had plenty of fun on the macks and tuna, coming home with a lovely meal or two of fresh fish for our troubles. The fishing grapevine had been buzzing for a few days with news of everything from queenies to giant herring smashing bait in this area, and Jo and I had been chafing at the bit to get amongst them, but found ourselves repeatedly frustrated by work and family commitments. I haven't been to the Haven area, will have to check that place out.Jo fights a hard-slugging longtail tuna off Lee Point on a classic Dry Season day. This is actually how I got them for testing (repeatedly quit and reloaded the save till the right mushrooms spawned). And possibly when you sleep or leave the area and return. Whether they have mushrooms and what kind is decided when the save is loaded. Ceriman doesn't spoil.įor the mushrooms, particular logs are the 'mushroom logs'. Besides bananas and ceriman (green corn thing) they spoil within a day. Or use a smoker and just not smoke the meat.įor the non-cookable fruits, has to be backpack. I'm not perfectly sure if this would work but placing them on stone ring might keep them there even after they spoil. Leaving fruits, vegetables and meats on the ground, they will often disappear when they spoil. If you don't harvest I think the corpse will stay through reloads even on the ground, but after a point the meat will still spoil, so gutting it will result in spoiled meat. Or collect the meat from the random dead birds/mice/toads and let it spoil. I tend to build camps all over the map with drying racks and forget to bring dried meat when I leave. Or check the big tree stumps at night, can find 3-4 there sometimes. Larva can be gotten by collecting the orange fruit any time you see it. Stick traps don't need bait, but they seem to catch faster with it. Hmm, I have noticed that the 'large stick fish traps' tend to catch angelfish and discus often. If anyone has caught Arowana with the pole trap, comment please. Just bait and walk away (or sleep for an hour or two). You can catch Bass with discus, or Piranha with mushrooms. I've only caught Piranha and Bass with it, but the bait didn't matter nor did the location. As far as I can tell, its actually random what you get. The fishing pole trap is different though. Not sure about Haven.ĭiscus and/or Angelfish can be found in weedy (grass/seaweed stuff) locations in those areas, in weedy locations in the streams - often near the waterfalls - and near mangrove roots. So far have only found Piranha at the Fishing Dock river, Bass at the Oasis (near drug lab) and Arowana in the new Lagoon zone. This is for the fishing rod, and only works if the fish in question is visible in the water in the location the lure is cast. Orange Cup Mushroom: Arowana, Peacock Bass. Might as well start a new topic with my research about fishing.
